Poets Today

In an interview that Brooks did she stated that poets today are more concerned about getting paid for their work than getting their work out there for people to see it.    The look on Brooks face was disgust and sadness, that people that are a part of her community would be acting and thinking like this.  As I listened to her talk about this I thought about my generation and their constant need for money and approval.  My generation rarely does anything without something in return.  As I read Gwendolyn Brooks poems and hear her speak I feel her struggles that she faced growing up and the devotion that she had being a poet.  This is why I believe it hurts her to see the new generation not having the save beliefs and devotions to their writings.  They are basically doing work for a profit instead of for a soulful connection like she did.
